On the vast battlefield of agricultural production, pests and diseases have always been formidable enemies that plague farmers and threaten crop yield and quality. The chemical active ingredient diflubenzuron, with its unique advantages, has become a powerful weapon against pests and diseases, and has recently played a key role in agricultural prevention and control efforts in many places.
Diflubenzuron aids in the supervision of quality and safety of lychee
With the large-scale availability of lychees as they mature, various regions have initiated quality and safety supervision actions to ensure that consumers can enjoy safe and secure fruits. The Humen Town Agricultural Technology Center, in collaboration with the Dongguan Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Supervision and Inspection Institute, has assembled a special team to conduct extensive inspections and rapid tests on pesticides frequently used in lychee cultivation, including diflubenzuron. Staff members have delved into orchards and purchasing points to conduct "batch-by-batch inspection and sample-by-sample testing" of lychee products. They use rapid detection technology to screen for potential risks, establish dynamic monitoring records for pesticide residues, trace back to the source, and guide growers in using pesticides scientifically and reasonably. So far, a comprehensive coverage of testing for key items such as diflubenzuron has been completed on 32 lychee samples, fully safeguarding the quality and safety of lychees.
An environmentally friendly choice for preventing and controlling forest pests
In the forestry sector, diflubenzuron also plays a significant role. Targeting the American white moth, which poses a serious threat to forestry ecology, Dongming County has carried out aerial control operations throughout the county. Helicopters filled with diflubenzuron pesticide are sprayed in an orderly manner under the control of staff, ensuring even coverage and effectively killing the larvae of the American white moth, reducing the insect population density, and curbing its spread. According to the deputy director of the Dongming County Forestry Bureau, the diflubenzuron used in this control operation is highly effective, low-toxic, harmless to humans and animals, and does not pollute the environment. Additionally, manual supplementary control will be carried out in the remaining dead zones of aerial control to ensure the effectiveness of the control measures. Furthermore, Hebi City has also dispatched aircraft to use 20% diflubenzuron suspension to control pests such as the American white moth. The operation covers an area of 133,600 mu, focusing on national highways, expressways, riverbanks, and forest areas.
The mechanism of action and advantages of diflubenzuron
Diflubenzuron belongs to the benzoylurea class and is a type of biochemical pesticide. It primarily exerts its efficacy by inhibiting the synthesis of chitin in the cuticle of pests, preventing them from undergoing normal molting and leading to their death. This mechanism of action makes diflubenzuron particularly effective against lepidopteran pests. For instance, in experiments conducted to control the pear tree's oblique-striped night moth, spraying with a 1000-fold dilution of 20% emamectin benzoate and diflubenzuron suspension resulted in significant efficacy after 26 hours. The insects became poisoned, with some drying out and falling off. Additionally, diflubenzuron poses minimal harm to humans and livestock, and has negligible impact on natural enemies of insects. It is an internationally promoted and applied environmentally friendly pesticide, and is also recommended by the World Health Organization for the control of sanitary pests and rodent eradication.
Diflubenzuron is playing an increasingly important role in ensuring the safety of agricultural and forestry production and safeguarding the ecological environment. It can be seen in both agricultural product quality and safety testing and large-scale pest control operations. With the increasing pursuit of green and environmentally friendly agriculture, diflubenzuron is expected to play a greater role in future agricultural production.
